At this year’s auto show, Ma has officially released a new SUV model – Mazda CX-30. This brand new SUV is unusual in name. It does not follow the one-digit naming method, but uses the new naming system for the first time.
At the same time, the new Mazda CX-30 will be a model between the Mazda CX-3 and CX-5, which is similar to the CX-4 in China. So how do we understand the positioning of the CX-30? What is the relationship between it and CX-3? Is the next generation CX-4 or Mazda in further refinement?
From the appearance of the interior design
The Mazda CX-30 is Mazda’s second production car with the concept of Soul 2.0. The front air intake grille is the most obvious difference between the CX-30 and the CX-3 and CX-4. The CX-30 uses the grid grille like the new Mazda 3 and the current CX-5. This design is likely to become the same. New family style design. At the same time, the shape of the front surround and fog lights has also been redesigned.
From the side, the first look looks very much like the body of the CX-4, and the D-pillar also uses the privacy glass of the CX-4. However, it is hard to find that the black surrounding area under the CX-30 is thicker, and the overall feeling is taller than the CX-4. Compared with the CX-3, the lines are smoother and slender. The tail profile is closer to the CX-3, and the new taillights are very recognizable, using a two-sided layout.
The interior of the CX-30 features Mazda’s latest family-style design. The asymmetrical shape is distinct from the current CX-3 and CX-4, and is very close to the new Mazda3. The two air conditioning vents in front of the first officer’s position are also a family-owned design for the new Mazda model.

The current CX-30 has a body size of 4395/1795/1540mm and a wheelbase of 2655mm. The CX-3 has a wheelbase of 2570mm and the CX-5 has a wheelbase of 2700mm. Therefore, the CX-30 is positioned horizontally with a wheelbase of 2655mm. . The CX-4, also positioned between the CX-3 and CX-5, has a body size of 4633/1840/1535 and a wheelbase of 2,700.

From the perspective of the power system
Due to the new platform of the CX-30, it will simultaneously introduce several power systems in the gasoline and diesel versions. The Mazda SkyActiv-G engine will naturally not be absent. The CX-30 is expected to offer SkyAcitv-G, SkyActiv-D and SkyActiv-X power configurations respectively. In addition, different engines will be paired with Mazda’s new light mixing system. Since the Mazda Chuangchi Blue Sky engine and the new homogeneous charge compression ignition technology already have good fuel economy, the addition of this light-mixing system may provide better performance in terms of drivability.
The CX-30’s coupe shape and spatial performance can fully complement the CX-3 to varying degrees. Although the days of importing CX-3 in the Chinese market are not good, in overseas markets such as Southeast Asia, the visibility of the CX-3 is still quite high. As for the CX-30, it will not go to the thorough electrification road after the light-mixing system. It depends on the market performance of the CX-30.
The CX-30 is more like a supplement to the CX-3. According to the current trend of the SUV market, the coupe SUVs have been launched in the market and become a mix of traditional styling. Mazda may also rely on such a naming scheme to add coupe classifications to other SUVs. As for the domestic CX-4, it will definitely be replaced in the future, but personally think that the CX-4’s current domestic sales and reputation is still very good, so the next generation CX-4 may absorb the latest design of the CX-30, but It may not be introduced with a new name or a body size adjustment.
